QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • i have 8 nos 1.8K, NTC Thermistor to be monitor . Can i utilize the 4 AI and the balance 4 nos to extension modules?. what is the extension module model for my case?

The short answer is no the first part of your question. The analog inputs on the CPU are voltage inputs. Thermistors are resistance devices and require a special setup to provide an interface to the PLC. There are a few choices: 1) purchase a 4-20ma thermistor transmitter for each thermistor and bring them in to an analog input card capable of 4-20ma input signals. This is the preferred method when using thermistors. These transmitters are typically $100 or so. 2) put a 600-ohm resistor in series with the thermistor lead, map out the response of the thermistor with the modified total resistance (450 ohms), and then connect the thermistors to an RTD card. RTD cards only detect resistance changes in the 0-750 ohm range, and simply connecting a 1.8k ohm signal to an RTD card would be detected as an open circuit. You will need to generate a temperature versus resistance curve and calculate temperature from the response at the analog input channel.

Cards that you may need to consider purchasing.

    S7-1200 4-20ma analog input Card (4 inputs): SM1234, part no. 6ES7234-4HE32-0XB0

    S7-1200 4-20ma analog input Card (4 inputs): SM1231 RTD, part no.6ES7231-5PD32-0XB0

  • Does the analog input have current capability as well as voltage? (mA signal vs voltage)

No, the analog inputs provided with the starter kit are all 0-10VDC inputs. If you have 4-20ma analog signals, simply place a 500-ohm resistor between the (+) and (-) terminals of the analog input and it will be converted to a 2-10VDC signal. You can scale the analog input in the PLC to give you a 0% - 100% engineering units range corresponding to 2VDC at 0% and 10V at 100%.

  • Hi , in your question and answer section on the S7-1200+ktp400 part number 6AV6651-7KA02-3AA4 you state that this unit has 3 I/O modules included: 16 input Digital Input module 16 output Digital output module 4 voltage-channel Analog input module. is this correct

I apologize, but the answer to the question posed under the 6AV6651-7KA02-3AA4 product in the Marketplace is incorrect. The S7-1200 + KTP400 starter kit has an S7-1212C CPU which includes 8 DI's, 8 DO's, and 4 AI's integrated into the CPU chassis. It is possible to add additional I/O cards to this CPU, but they are not included with the starter kit.

  • This kit include 2 different software's one for communication y one for programing correct? tia portal and step 7 let me know thanks

    Hi there,

The starter kits includes 2 separate licenses: one for TIA Portal Basic, and one for OPC-UA, which is built into the S7-1200 CPU.

  • Hi, can you tell me ETA (estimated time arrive) to destination, after finishing the order? I am in netherland.

Hi there, delivery to an address in the Netherlands usually takes around 2-5 business days. Hope this helps!

  • Can you tell me about the packaging dimension & the weight of the product?

Sure, the packaging dimension is 29,70 x 39,70 x 16,20, and the weight of this item is 3,300 Kg. Hope this helps! :)

  • What if my laptop doesn't play CDs? Am I able to download the contents instead?

I believe the manual included on the CD is the one linked to here:

    https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/document/39710145/simatic-s7-1200-easy-book?dti=0&lc=en-WW

I believe the software (TIA Portal) is on the CD as well, and you will likely need to find a PC with a CD so you can copy the installation files to a USB stick. The license is usually delivered on a USB stick with the starter kits. I agree, everything should be able to be downloaded from the web, but the is under Siemens control, not ours.

That said, I was told you can contact online support at Siemens and request a software download, which will likely need to be done once you receive your product license.

  • Does this kit include the PLC simulation software like the ones on your video tutorials?

Hi there, yes it does! Hope this helps :)

  • I am interested to buy s7-1200 with KPT400 . Can I pay through bank?

Great to hear that! Sure, anything from our online store can be paid through these major debit & credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, PayPal, ApplePay and Ideal. Hope this helps!

  • Do you have a power cord with bare wires?

No. But an example of what you need can be found here (just search for “power cord pigtail”):

    https://www.amazon.com/Pinfox-Replacement-Pigtail-Universal-Appliance/dp/B06XQZFD36/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?ie=UTF8&aaxitk=hGJTHPVAtZNUPO-1D-gFjw&hsa_cr_id=8180725340701&ref_=sbx_be_s_sparkle_mcd_asin_2

  • Should I need a power supply for this plc? If so, which one? I would need it for personal use around the house. Thank you

No, a separate power supply is not required. This model of starter kit comes with a CPU that can be powered directly from 120VAC (works with AC voltages from 85 to 264VAC at frequencies of 47-63Hz). This will require a power cord with bare wires at one end to connect to the appropriate terminals on the PLC and a standard wall plug on the other end. Just be careful and never connect wiring with the cord plugged in and make sure there is no excess bare wire exposed at the CPU that could cause a shock hazard.

  • Can I install this on Windows 10 Home?

Yes, as long as it is a 64-bit version of Windows 10.

  • Hello, does Step 7 Basic support SCL language?

The answer is YES! SCL is Siemens structured text language. All ladder, function block, and STL (Instruction List) programs are converted to SCL at download. SCL is highly flexible and not too difficult to learn. To create an SCL program, the programmer needs to create a new program block, choose OB, FC, or FB, and then select the language for that block. SCL will be on the list with LAD, FBD, STL, SCL, etc., whichever formats are supported by the PLC. Hope this helps! :)

  • Hello, I need to generate a pulse PTO with simatic (S7-1200 cpu 1212AC DC RLY, 6ES7 212-1BE40-0XB0) but with this PLC I need signal board with a digital outputs. Could you check in your warehouse if it is availble? Thank you.

Hi there, the starter kit comes with 6DO's built into the CPU package. If you need higher frequency outputs, I suggest using this part number: 6ES7222-1AD30-0XB0

Hope this helps, let us know if you have any other questions!

  • Can we upgrade Step 7 basic to professional? How much each cost? Thanks

Yes, it is possible to upgrade from STEP7 Basic to STEP7 Professional. You need a power package which costs about €1.600.
This is the link to the power package. This is the part number: 6ES7822-1AE05-0YC5

  • I already have TIA Portal v15 installed and its work. I just want to have a physical PLC and HMI to gain more experience with it. What would you suggest, I'm an automation student. Thanks!

Hi there, we would advise the S7-1212C which is a small PLC. For the HMI, we would suggest a basic HMI like the KTP400. Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Is there a limitation on the functionality of the Step7 software that comes with the kit? - such as expiration, restriction on program size, types of programming languages (fbd, STL,scl, etc)?

The STEP 7 basic version that comes up with this starter kit has life-time access (it won't expire).

The difference between STEP 7 basic and STEP 7 professional is that STEP7 basic can only be used for programming S7-1200 PLCs but STEP 7 professional can be used to program all types of Siemens PLCs including S7-1200, S7-1500, S7-300, and S7-400.

STEP 7 basic ==> only for S7-1200 PLCs
    STEP 7 professional ==> for S7-1200, S7-1500, S7-300, and S7-400 PLCs.
